Speed up the site for User Experience and SEO
Rather than locking down functionality or changing the team's workflow, we consolidated tools and streamlined code.
The four websites for each of the campuses were scoring low D ranges for speed. They were getting penalized in search engines for loading speed.
Something needed to change.
Reduce the Size
It's just like when you have to carry a bunch of stuff, it slows you down.
Websites can be loaded with images that are too large, too many plugins that do the same thing, or duplicate processes. Reducing the load in these areas makes a significant difference.

Images Come in Many Sizes
Did you know that some smartphones take pictures that are 8 times larger than necessary? As in, larger than EVER necessary on a website.
Professional photos are even larger. We reduce them several different ways before including them on a website.

You Can Only Write with One Pen at a Time
There are a dozen pupular form builders out there.
You only need one.
Even if a form isn't being used on a page, the plugin may still run the scripts necessary to show one on every page. This costs resources and time.

Keep it Simple
Not just the build, but your life. There's no need to work harder to save some loading time or get a better grade on a search engine metric.
Keep what you need, get rid of everything that gets in your way.
We Got an A!
The grade is nice, but it's even more satisfying knowing the user can get to where they want to go in milliseconds, not seconds.
Like they always say, you only get 220ms to make a first impression.
